Crosshairs Garage Races

Welcome to the fourth annual Crosshairs Garage Races, formerly Crystal City Wednesday Night Spins, the premiere underground-garage bike race series.

Races take place every Wednesday in March and the first week in April in Crystal City, Virginia.

MERCH!! We have shirts for sale here:

The course will be fast and fun for all abilities, and participants will compete for prizes for the top finishers each week while earning points toward being the best rider of the series. The lounge area will provide great viewing and happy hour drinks. The Java Cruiser will be selling grilled cheese sandwiches and Acme Pie will be on site as well. Guests not racing can still enjoy the festivities in the lounge area. The first round of Crosshairs Garage Races is  March 7, 2018. CGR is at the same venue as last year, which means we will again be using the second level to add a bit of elevation change to the racing.

“DAY-OF” REGISTRATION FEE: Cost per race for in-person registration will be $20. Fixed Gear Finale day of fee is $15. Cargo Bike/Bikeshare/Tandem race day of fee is $5.

Course Details: a unique subterranean 10+ turn criterium held in the 201 12th St. Parking Garage. This is a crit-style training race. There are no dismounts. It’s worth checking out the course as racing inside with low ceilings takes a couple minutes of riding to get used to. (Course Map below subject to minor changes.)

Scoring details: This is a training race. It is not affiliated with USA Cycling so your results will not count towards upgrade points. Our main goal is to get everyone out riding in a fun and competitive setting. Our aim is to score at least the top 10 in each field. We will strive to score everyone but it may not happen.  Top three in each category may receive prizes.

Series points: We will award series point as follows: 1st place: 10 points, 2nd place 9 points, 3rd place 8 points, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10 places receive 7,6,5,4,3,2 and 1 points. Series winners will receive prizes. Series winner will win the prestigious Petty Cup

Equipment: No tri-bars, clip-on bar extensions or MTB bar ends. Our recommendation is to run wider tires and lower tire pressure. Anywhere in the 25mm through 28mm range will be perfect for the conditions with PSI significantly lower than 100psi. Get there early and test out different tire pressures to dial in the turns. If you haven’t put away your cyclocross bike, running file treads has been a race-winning strategy.

Cargo Bike/Tandem Race: This will be a 20 minute race with Cargo Bikes (cargo TBD), and Tandems. Prizes and bragging rights on the line. This race will also include Bikeshare Parade laps.

FEDS vs CONTRACTORS: The ultimate DC competition. This is a three-person team relay race. If your team is neither fed nor contractor you can still race. We’re not that picky. Only one team member needs to register for the entire team.
